samba is really getting me down

why not use bossa nova and its cool bim bom sound? yeah, right.

so i upgraded samba on my ubuntu box.  yes.
and then no one can connect.  no!

i see this in my local log.smbd files:
samba pdc ldap_connect_system: Failed to retrieve password from secrets.tdb

you have got to be kidding me.

  failed to bind to server ldap://127.0.0.1/ with dn="cn=admin,dc=mycompany,dc=com" Error: Invalid credentials

you have got to be kidding me.

apt-get install samba libpam-smbpass

o k a y i'll reset it to what it was.

smbpasswd -w weakpassword

restart.  nope.

o k a y i'll reset it interactively

smbpasswd -W
weakpassword

and it works.
